This can also be done in the overworld area. This can be repeated until the player stomps enough times to earn lives. After crossing the gap, a few colored block platforms appear, ending with the flagpole.Īt Star Coin 3, players should stomp on Lakitu (which gives 1000 points, or 20 coins) and stomp on the next one while on a cloud without touching the ground (which gives 2000 points, or 50 coins). Under one of these blocks is a Gold Ring and above another is a Red Ring, sending eight red coins parachuting down from the sky. Mario then has to jump from block to block to cross a large abyss, while avoiding the Lakitus. Mario then comes across a structure of colored blocks (colored similarly to a rainbow), where the checkpoint can be found. Two sets of ? Blocks can be seen, with a hidden block in between which contains a Super Star. After that, a Gold Ring can be found just above an orange block and below it is the first Star Coin. Some orange and green colored blocks can be found along with some ? Blocks, one containing a Fire Flower. This is followed by the appearance of colored blocks which acts as platforms, and two short pipes in mid-air infested with Piranha Plants. After that, there is an empty area except for a Gold Ring and some Dash Coins, causing Lakitus to throw coins instead and Spinies to automatically change into coins. Moving forward there is a Piranha Plant in a Warp Pipe. In this level, more than one Lakitu may be present at the same time, as opposed to earlier games.

Moments later, a Lakitu appears, throwing Spinies towards Mario. Mario begins on land beside several ? Blocks, of which one of them has a Fire Flower.
